More Pokemon Sun and Moon Thoughts

Description

When the trailers for Sun and Moon first dropped (for me at 5:00am) I immediately tweeted that Olympia and the Moon Legendary looked very similar. Now 2 days later I want to expound upon my initial thought as well as offer up some other thoughts about Sun and Moon that have been brewing in my mind.

First is the matter at hand. Olympia looks like the moon legendary, and Lysandre looks like the Sun legendary. I have heard many theories in the past two days as to why this is (including the ridiculous theory that Olympia is the moon legendary and is from space), and the best I could come up with is this: Ash and Greninja share an unparalleled bond that goes beyond mega evolution and in turn allows them to synchronize (dear god am I talking about yu-gi-oh?) during battle. Greninja takes on a new form similar to that of Ash, and presumably gains a ton of power.  Keep in mind that the thoughts I am about to offer up I don't really believe in (not to mention that the mere concept is revolting for me), for reasons I'll also explain, but comprise my putting together several shards of theories into what I feel is the most plausible. As Greninja takes on a new form akin to the appearance of Ash, so too do the pokemon of Olympia and Lysandre, and this form manifests itself before our very eyes as the sun and moon legendary.  The theory may seem outlandish, and rightly so, but if any of the theories are to be correct I think it would have to be this.  Of course it is possible that Lysandre and Olympia worship these pokemon and dress accordingly, it is also possible that there is no connection between Lysandre/Olympia and these legendaries. But the Ash greninja plot line was put into the anime for a reason and that reason as well as the meaning of the phenomena will undoubtedly manifest itself in these games, so, given the information we now have, this seems the most logical conclusion. Perhaps the sun legendary is a mega evolution of Pyroar or a Ash Greninja style form, and perhaps the Moon legendary is the same for Noivern. Perhaps Olympia and Lysandre are the key to this.

Of course there are many problems with this theory, but first the question need be asked, why on earth are the new legendaries such that they look so damn similar to two recent pokemon? Surely the only answer for this can be lack of design ideas, or that they are connected. However, the problems must also be accounted for, and once this is done you will undoubtedly be led to discount this theory as I have. 1. Lysandre looks more like Pyroar than the Sun legendary, if anything its change in appearance makes it look less like Lysandre. 2. Noivern is a dragon type pokemon, Olympia is a psychic type gym leader, and she doesn't own one to begin with. 3. Even if they felt they had to put the ash greninja phenomena into the game, would it make any sense to take a huge gamble and do it with the legendaries? Yes the burst heart diamonds are in the logos, but really, it seems a very dumb move to make.

As for my other thoughts, they are as follows.
I noted in my first SM thoughts post two days ago that the male protagonist looks astonishingly similar to Calem from XY. Other pokemon theorists had the good sense to follow that further and came to the conclusion that the protagonist is the son or daughter of Calem and Shauna and this means that we're going back to Kalos. As it is seen in the trailer the mom looks like Shauna, and my own conclusion is that this is very possible because I noticed after re-watching the trailer, that the mother stamps her foot, almost as if dancing, and this is the type of ecstatic movements that Shauna is always making in XY. Also Shauna says at the end of the game that her next adventure is going to be in a new region. Perhaps she didn't anticipate that adventure as taking place as a mom, but who knows. But then the practicality of this idea crept into my mind. What I will say in favor of the idea is this, if we're going back to kalos and the game takes place later on in the timeline, then I think we can expect to see reoccurring characters. For example Bonnie might be the head of the Lumiose Gym, and Trevor might be professor sycamore's assistant or he might even be the pokemon professor. I had originally thought that Alain would be the champion if we were to return to Kalos, because in the anime (which should probably never be a referent for what the games will contain) Bonnie assumes that he is in the elite four and he explains that he's not. But he would be a very fitting champion and there is seemingly a mention of him in ORAS by Steven Stone. However, if the theory postulated is correct, it would make sense that Calem is the campion of Kalos and you see your father upon returning, RSE style.

But I see one big hitch now that the trailer is out with the idea that we'd be returning to Kalos that speaks to the practicality I earlier referred to. The protagonist is now full cut scene height all the time, so to go back to Kalos necessarily entails redesigning the whole region to fit this bigger sprite. I confess that after watching the trailer, as I noted in my other post, the general thought I was impressed with was that we weren't going to be returning to Kalos and that perhaps Zygarde's story was being saved for a later Pokemon Z, and to me this practical problem is a realistic way of reaching that conclusion.

One last thing I want to note, as it ties into a prediction I will now make. I noticed while replaying Y in preparation for SM that there are Graves in the muddy swamp area south of Laverre city. Of course I noticed this while playing the first time, but I put 2 and 2 together this time through and realized that this is the geographical equivalent of the muddy trenches of the 1st world War, where so many unnamed Graves exist today. That's very unnerving, and I think it points to the idea that people also did the fighting in the war 3000 years ago. With things like this, the old man who dies after having one of your pokemon as company (also in XY), and the absolutely disturbing story that seemingly goes along with Sea Mauville in ORAS, it seems that the pokemon games have been laden with many dark subplots. Hell the whole story of the war is a far-cry from the normal treachery of the teams and is very dark, and it's the main plot of XY.  My prediction, even though the trailers made the Alola region seem like such a wonderful place that I nearly forgot there is an evil team yet to be revealed, is that there will be a very dark plot or sub plots, in continuation of this trend that has seemingly entered the pokemon games.
